The Set Up — Date Rape and Sexual Assault
Our Date Rape & Sexual Assault program builds on the information presented in the Gender Roles & Assertiveness workshop. It addresses the notion that both teen boys and girls construct personal Fall Back Positions based on cultural gender norms. When they utilize those Fall Back Positions unconsciously within social or sexual situations, they often fall into making dangerous choices that result in regret, guilt, or shame. Here, we discuss these concepts in relation to the rising rate of date rape and sexual assault among 16-24 year olds with the aim of developing awareness, accountability, and a sense of responsibility among participants. This talk typically incorporates a workshop format of gender break out groups and/or practical self-defense skills for girls.
